CISF constable shoots self at Guwahati airport

GUWAHATI: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) head constable, Surender Singh at LGBI Airport here who was deployed at watch tower number 2, shot himself on his chest with his rifle after completion of his shift at 1.25pm on Thursday, a statement from CISF issued here said.

According to practice, duty personnel of the watch tower area were assembled at the cargo/vehicle gate to board the shift bus for deposit of weapons and debriefing at Unit Kote which is two km away. It was about that time when Singh, 55, shot himself.

The head constable, who hails from Haryana, was immediately taken to Composite Hospital BSF where he was declared brought death.

An FIR was lodged at Azara police station for further action.

Prima facie, the case appeared to be of suicide, the statement said.

Azara police station officer in charge,  Ashok Kumar Dutta told The Shillong Times that investigation was on to ascertain the cause of his death and that the body has been taken to Guwahati Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
