SHILLONG: While many of the leaders in the state Congress wants CLP leader, Mukul Sangma to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Tura seat, the Congress spokesperson, Zenith Sangma who himself have applied for contesting the polls from Tura, has maintained that the Central Election Committee of the party will take a final call on who should contest the elections.

Zenith Sangma denied that there was any internal bickering in the party as some leaders wanted Mukul Sangma to contest the Lok Sabha elections  even as he admitted that some leaders had proposed the names of the CLP leader to contest the Lok Sabha elections as they feel that he was the best choice for the Congress

Maintaining that nothing has been finalised as of now, he added that   there were some leaders as well who felt that Mukul Sangma should stay in state politics for some more time as he was required here.

He also said that a potential leaders requirement could be felt anywhere be it in the state or national politics

It may be mentioned that many leaders   including Ampareen Lyngdoh and even sitting MP from Shillong, Vincent Pala feel that Mukul Sangma will be the best person for the party to contest the elections from Tura seat.

He also said that the party did not see the upcoming elections as a challenge since the party was confident of winning both the Shillong and Tura seats while adding that there is no dearth of leaders in the party.

He also refused the idea that NPP is a force to reckon with in Tura

It may be mentioned that the elections to the Lok Sabha can be announced anytime and major parties in Meghalaya be it Congress, BJP or UDP , they have already made up their plans to contest the elections.
