NONGPOH: The local legislator of Umsning, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, on Saturday donated an ambulance that will benefit five villages in Ri Bhoi.
The ambulance was launched during a programme held at Sumer Saw Nomber, one of the beneficiary villages. Headmen of the villages, locals and others attended the programme. Mawlong said this was made possible due to the unity of the village leaders, people and the representatives. The MLA also urged the villagers to maintain the ambulance and utilise it.
Village leaders thanked Mawlong and said their request for an ambulance to the previous MLA fell on deaf ears.
The ambulance will benefit Umtham, Byrwa, Umramblei and Lawbyrwa villages, besides Sumer Saw Nomber.
On the same day, Mawlong also donated two boats for tourism at Phrut Dak Lake at Rongmesek. The lake is one of the popular tourist destinations in Ri Bhoi district, and the new addition will help attract visitors.
