TURA: The improper distribution of Rice and Sugar to beneficiaries in West Garo Hills has once again come to the fore with the All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) submitting a complaint by the affected ration card holders to the Sub-Divisional Officer of Dadenggre.

According to the complaint submitted on behalf of the people by the AMMSU, the unfair distribution of the commodities is taking place in a Fair Price Shop under Bhangarpar area and the affected people are beneficiaries of non-NFSA, PHH and AAY. The people also alleged that the shops are not adhering to the PDS guidelines.

“It is shocking that the shops are charging Rs 2000/- – Rs 3000/- from some beneficiaries at the time of disbursement of ration cards. We have also come to know that the concerned Fair Shop distributed Rice with a reduction of .977 Kgs per head,” Nur Islam Sk, the President of the union claimed.

According to Islam, an RTI report has also revealed that the dealer misused 5 allotments to beneficiaries. It was also alleged by Islam that ration cards of the beneficiaries were changed from APL to BPL and AAY without prior notice given to them.
