Weekly-off for Chhattisgarh cops
Raipur: Police personnel in Chhattisgarh will now get regular weekly-offs, a move that will come as a relief to them and their families in view of their long and erratic working hours. Till now, the policemen were getting a yearly special leave (around 40 to 45 days), but now, as per an order issued by Director General of Police D M Awasthi on Saturday, all personnel — from constable to inspector ranks — will be given one day leave every week. “The decision was taken in view of the difficult nature of their job and severe work pressure,” an official here said Sunday. In case of VVIP movement or emergency circumstances, if the weekly-off is not granted then the policeman would be entitled to get the pending leave later within the same month, he said. As per the order, the personnel posted in Naxal-hit areas will be collectively given eight-day leave within a stretch of three months. However, the weekly-offs could also be cancelled due to security reasons and it would be the sole discretion of the unit head to take a decision on it, the official said. As per the order, official permission to cancel the weekly-off would be the prerogative of the superintendent of police/commandant and a formal intimation of it was required to be sent to the range inspector general (IG) and deputy inspector general (DIG) concerned. Need to protect traditions, beliefs of Hindus: RSS
Gwalior: The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday urged Ayyappa devotees in Kerala to continue their struggle to save the Sabarimala temple traditions and sought the country’s support in protecting the beliefs of the Hindu society. At a three-day meet of its highest policy-making body the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) here, the RSS adopted a resolution saying there had been a “systematic design” by “vested interests” based on “a non-Bhartiya perspective” to insult and hurt Hindu beliefs and traditions. “The Sabarimala temple case is a recent example of this design. Hindutva is not a monolithic thought but a view of life manifested in diverse and varied ways of cultural expressions, characterised by uniqueness in modes of worship, local traditions and festivities. It is anomalous to impose monotonous homogenisation on the beauty of diversity in our traditions,” the resolution said. (IANS)

Wedding card urges guests to vote for Modi in LS polls
Siwan (Bihar): A marriage invitation card urging guests to vote for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the general elections as a wedding gift has become the talk of the town in Bihar’s Siwan district. Ashok Singh, a resident of Siwan Kala village, printed the message on the envelope of his daughter’s marriage invitation card, sources said. “To bless my daughter and in the interest of the country, please cast your votes in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls,” the message on the card read. Asked about the reason behind his appeal, Singh said: “There is no other objective except for the nation’s interest.” “People should vote in favour of Modi ji because there is no other leader better than him. He thinks about the country while others think about themselves,” added Singh, who has been staying in Kuwait for the last 15 years where he works in a private company. His son Ravindra Singh too echoed similar sentiments. “Narendra Modi is the only one who can take the country forward and no other leader can do that,” he said. (PTI)
