SHILLONG: If a Sangma has to win the Tura Lok Sabha seat, it will be Mukul. That’s what Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh believes.
“I feel Mukul Sangma will have an edge over all the Sangmas, be they from whichever fold,” Lyngdoh told reporters here on Saturday.
Claiming that former chief minister Mukul Sangma has contributed a lot to the development of the Garo Hills region, she said that today the area is connected by state roads and is easily accessible from different parts of the state.
“ He has wiped out insurgency from Garo Hills and no one else can take credit for this,” she said while asking people to do an evaluation of which of the two candidates for Tura seat have contributed for the development of the Garo Hills region.
The ruling NPP is fielding former Union minister Agatha Sangma for the seat.
Stating that Mukul Sangma was blamed for taking all the developments to Garo Hills, which cost him dearly, she, however, added that the previous government has done what it had to do and all parts of the state have had their fair share of development.

Battleground TURA
She said that the only trump card that the ruling party can rely on is the money that they have at their command and which was evident in the recently-concluded MDC elections.
She also slammed the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre saying none of their schemes have yielded any positive result in the region as the housing and rural electrification projects in particular were a complete disaster.
Besides, the Centre has also scaled down the central assistance from 90:10.
