GUWAHATI: Six ULFA (I) cadres were taken into custody by security forces along with sophisticated arms and ammunition from Tarani Reserved Forest in Tinsukia district of Assam on Monday.

The six apprehended ULFA (I) cadres are identified Barun Asom, Saurav Asom, Utpal Asom, Bosonto Asom, Ninja Asom and Sekhar Jyoti Asom, a Defence source informed.

This operation was part of the ongoing crackdown by security forces on the insurgent organisations active in Upper Assam.

Based on specific intelligence reports regarding these cadres having crossed over the Indo-Myanmar border for carrying out specific activities in Upper Assam in the build up to the elections, a joint operation was launched by the Army and Police.

Sustained and intense pressure was exerted on them which prevented these cadres to get in touch with their over ground workers and execute their task.

Finally, due to relentless operations by Security Forces, the cadres were cornered in the area of the Tarani Reserve Forest and ran out of sustenance.

Their families and friends were contacted by the Security Forces to motivate them to offer themselves up for apprehension. The efforts of the security forces resulted in these cadres realizing the futility of their situation and they finally gave up to the Security Forces.
