TURA/Nongstoin/Jowai: In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha Election to Tura Constituency, the District Election Officer, West Garo Hills has informed all candidates and political parties that the nomination papers may be delivered by a candidate or any of his proposers to the Returning Officer in Room No. 101, Deputy Commissioner’s office, Main Building, 1st Floor between 11 am and 3 pm on any day (other than public holiday) and not later than March 25.
Scrutiny of nomination paper will be on March 26 at 11 am at DC’s office , notice of withdrawal of candidature can de delivered before 3 pm on March 28.
Selsella by-election
Further, for the by-election to Selsella, the process of submission of nomination papers will be the same and it may be submitted to the Returning Officer in Room No. 5, DC’s office or to Asst Returning Officer J R T Sangma in Room No. 3, DC’s office between 11 am and 3 pm on any day (other than public holiday) and not later than March 25. Scrutiny will be held on March 26 and withdrawal of candidature on March 28 by 3 pm.
Training for poll

Meanwhile, the District Election Office, West Garo Hills is conducting the first phase of training for polling personnel from March 19 to 23 at SMELC Building and ETC Building, Dakopgre, Tura which will be followed by the 2nd and 3rd phase training from March 26 to April 8 at the same venue.
Election expenditure observer arrives
The District Election Officer, West Garo Hills Tura has informed all candidates and political parties that the Election Expenditure Observer appointed for the Lok Sabha polls to Tura Constituency has arrived at Tura Circuit House.
Biswarup Das, IRS is the Election Expenditure Observer for Dadenggre, North Tura , South Tura, Rangsakona, Ampati, Mahendraganj, Salmanpara, Gambegre, Dalu, Rongara-Siju, Chokpot and Baghmara constituencies and can be contacted at 6009097998 and 03651-233019.
Therefore, any complaint relating to model code of conduct violation can be lodged before the observer concerned.
Election observer
visits WKH
The general observer to the Lok Sabha election for West Khasi Hills District Rajesh.Kothari IRS, visited the district to take stock about the preparedness for conducting the polls. He also met the DEO T.Lyngwa, Superintendent of Police B.J.Laloo, the ROs, AEROs and officials in a meeting held at the Conference Hall DC office, Nongstoin.
EAC S.Warjri gave a brief report about the trainings imparted to election officials entrusted with various task to conduct the election.

In Jowai, the deputy commissioner of West Jaintia Hills called upon all electors in the district to refrain from accepting cash, liquor, gift items or free food during elections. He also informed that flying squads and surveillance teams are formed to keep vigil on such activities. He further informed that strict action will be taken against persons carrying cash of Rs. 50,000 and above. The DC also warned that if caught in such illegal activities, both the giver and taker involved will be imprisoned up to one year with a fine.
Similarly, undue influence during an election including threatening with injury, inducement of belief of divine displeasure or of spiritual censure etc, will lead to imprisonment up to one year.
