Total 11 file nomination for LS polls in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: As many as eight candidates from Shillong seat  and three from Tura seat have filed the nominations for the ensuring first phase of Lok Sabha elections  scheduled to be held on April 11

The eight candidates who filed nominations include the Vincent Pala (Congress), Kennedy Cornelius Khyriem (Congress standby candidate), Jemino Mawthoh (UDP), THS Bonney (KHNAM),Sanbor Shullai (BJP),Justice Kharbasanti (CPI), Samuel  Hashah (independent) and  Romeo Phira Rani (Independent).

On the other hand, the prestigious Tura seat is heading for a three-cornered battle among Congress, NPP and the BJP.

The three candidates who filed their nominations include Dr Mukul Sangma (Congress),  Agatha Sangma  (NPP) and Rikman Garrey Momin (BJP).

The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be carried out on Tuesday and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is March  28

It may be mentioned that ninety-one Parliamentary constituencies spread over 20 states and Union Territories will go to polls in this phase. The election for the first phase will be held on 11th of next month.

All parliamentary constituencies in 10 states and Union Territories will go for polling in the first phase. These include Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep, Telangana and Uttarakhand.
