Panel formed on land tenure system

SHILLONG: The KHADC has formed a Land Tenure System Committee with Executive Member (EM) Mitchell Wankhar as chairman.
Speaking during the KHADC Budget session about the codification of land tenure system and to strengthen it, Wankhar on Tuesday said the recommendations of the Land Reform Commission, 1973 will also be studied. The EM has also co-opted Congress MDC Gabriel Wahlang as a member of the committee.
Wahlang has urged the KHADC to monitor the land holding system in the state to which Wankhar said the Executive Committee (EC) will examine the Land Bill.
Another Congress MDC Bajop Pyngrope said the land tenure system in Meghalaya is weak and there is a need for land reforms in scheduled areas.
