SHILLONG: Congress’s candidate for Tura Mukul Sangma’s property saw marginal increase in the last one year.
Sangma’s movable assets rose to a little over Rs 1.7 crore from over Rs 1.4 crore in 2018, according to his affidavits.
However, the worth of his immovable assets in 2019 is Rs 1.5 crore, a change from Rs 1.55 crore.
Sangma is the owner of teak, cardamom and areca nut plantations in Marakapara and Garobadha.
In 2016, Sangma had said in the Assembly that he may be the “only homeless chief minister in the entire country”. However, the former chief minister is not quite homeless as he owns an RCC building with an Assam-type house worth Rs 25 lakh. It was constructed at Chengkompara in Ampati in 2002. He also owns a flat in Guwahati that is worth Rs 64 lakh. In fact, the family owns several houses and apartments in Meghalaya and outside though most of them are purchased in the name of Sangma’s wife, Dikkanchi D Shira.
Fall in Shullai’s assets
BJP’s Lok Sabha poll candidate Sanbor Shullai is another leader whose assets have recorded a fall in the last one year.
Shullai, whose name was announced by the saffron party at the last moment, reported Rs 1.85 crore worth of immovable assets. The value was Rs 4.07 crore, according to his affidavit filed in 2018 before the Assembly elections.
The South Shillong MLA’s movable assets are worth around Rs 3.9 crore in 2019, a decrease from around Rs 4.3 crore.
Both Sangma and Shullai have declared owning revolvers — .32 Bore NP worth Rs 80,000 and .32 Bore pistol worth Rs 70,000, respectively.
