GUWAHATI: The Assam state unit of National People’s Party has categorically ruled out the truth of the propaganda “manufactured” by a section that the party is the “B team” of BJP and trying to sabotage the non-BJP candidates in Assam.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, Dilip Borah, the state convenor of NPP Assam said no party could think on the lines of deliberately losing while announcing its first list of candidates.
“Every party has its political ideology, own parameters, a thought process and there are a lot of factors taken into consideration during selection of candidates such as their background, demography of the constituency, voting pattern and local issues,” Borah said.
The NPP Assam state unit was launched here on March 6. The party is already into poll mode having announced its first list of candidates for next month’s Lok Sabha elections. Party leaders have started visiting various constituencies across the state to campaign for the candidates.
Poll management committees are also in place to manage affairs related to the elections.
“As it is crystal clear, NPP was and is a member of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) from its inception. One or two meetings of the officials of NEDA for purely organisational matters should not be looked into with doubt or suspicion as NPP Assam has selected its candidates using its own ideology, value systems based on public opinion,” the party convener said.
