TURA: The district administration of West Garo Hills has issued an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting all kinds of fishing by use of dynamites, generators, bleaching powder and other poisonous chemicals or herbs in the entire rivers and streams with immediate effect to stop the ongoing destruction of the local and rare species of fish in the region.

The order by deputy commissioner Ram Singh stated that Individuals and groups are resorting to fishing by using various methods in the rivers and streams at a time when the fish breeding season is taking place.

It added that such rampant use of methods for killing fish is endangering aquatic life leading to mass destruction of local and rare species of fish from the rivers of the district.

Hundreds of anglers and fisherman can be seen every day along banks of streams and rivers and some have been noticed using chemicals and generators to catch the fish in large numbers which is threatening the total wipeout of the local species.
