SHILLONG: The KSU Jaintia Hills district and Khliehriat Circle under the leadership of Ohibait Dkhar and other members inspected the office of the Khliehriat Town Committee under East Jaintia Hills district on Tuesday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the union said the office has turned into a shelter for animals.
The trucks which are supposed to transport garbage from the town are rusty and are non-functional.
Now, the vehicles serve the purpose of garbage bins.
“The reason is that the staff of this office did not get salary for more than a year now from the district council,” it added.
KSU demanded that the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and authorities concerned should look into the matter.
Ohibait, who is KSU’s Jaintia Hills president, said the council and the municipal board should take responsibility in keeping the town clean and added that the union in the coming days will meet authorities to find ways to solve it.
