SHILLONG: Meghalaya is ready for the Lok Sabha elections on Thursday with mainly three-four parties in the fray, including UDP, Congress, BJP and NPP.
In the 2009 and 2014 polls, Congress secured the highest percentage of votes. In 2009, Congress secured 44.84 per cent of the votes while in 2014 polls the percentage fell to 39.02.
In 2014, NPP secured 22.84 per cent of the votes. The party in 2009 secured 18.76 per cent of the votes.
The United Democratic Party secured 15.12 per cent of the votes in 2009 while its percentage dropped to 10.19 in 2014.
Independents bettered their performance in 2014 winning 17.24 per cent votes compared to 2.59 in 2009.
The BJP in 2014 secured 9.16 per cent of the votes.
In the 2009 polls, there were a total of 6,28,742 male electors and 6,48,016 female voters, but the number of voters was 4,06,532 (male) and 4,15,923 (female) with males clocking 64.66 per cent voting and females 64.18 per cent.
In the 2014 elections, there were a total of 7,76,633 male and 7,89,187 female electors. However, the number of male voters was 5,25,010 and female voters numbered 5,52,294 while the percentage of polling was 67.60 per cent among males and 69.98 per cent among females.
As far as PwD voters are concerned, they have been categorised into 1748 locomotor voters, 872 hearing speech voters, 803 visually impaired voters, 400 mental retardation and 696 other disabilities.
