Youth dies in road accident in Samanda

TURA: A final year college student of Tura tragically lost his life in a road accident at Samanda, near Williamnagar on Sunday evening.
The 25 year student of ICFAI University, Graser R Marak, hailing from Emangre village of Chokpot was returning from an outing with friends in a Maruti car (ML05 H 5662) when they collided with a Tata sumo (AS01 DD 6086) that was coming from Tura towards Williamnagar.
The victim, who was reportedly sitting in the back of the vehicle was severely injured and died on the spot.
Williamnagar police informed that the driver of the Maruti car, identified as Binward D Sangma of proper Chandmari, Tura drove the vehicle under the influence of alcohol when the tragic accident took place.
After crossing the forest check gate at Chisobibra, he reportedly lost control of the speeding car while trying to negotiate a sharp turn and dashed against the sumo vehicle coming from the opposite direction leading to the death of his co-passenger. Three others sustained minor injuries, inform police.
In the light of the incident and Monday being a major picnic event for many revellers in Garo Hills, police in Tura have set up several check points with breath analyser test machines to curb drunk driving.
