TURA: Tragedy struck a family from Rongsak in East Garo Hills when their 12 year old son who went to have a bath with other children drowned in the Simsang river on Wednesday afternoon.
The boy, Akash Rajbangshi had joined a group of friends from their locality of Rongsak Bazar to enjoy a cool bath in the river to beat the heat of the summer.
They were taking a bath in the river at around 11 in the morning when strong currents dragged Akash into the deep leading to his death. He was pulled out of the water and rushed to Rongsak health centre where doctors declared him dead.
This being the peak summer season many people, particularly children and youth, head to river sides in Garo Hills to cool off and there have been cases of death from drowning. Authorities have urged families to be cautious with children in river sides during this season.
