ERDF holds education conclave for girl students at Barak Valley

GUWAHATI: With the view to provide vision and guidance in higher education for the girl students of Barak Valley, the ERD Foundation, Guwahati, in association with Khairun Nessa Begum Women’s College, Badarpur has organised ‘Barak Valley Girl Students’ Conclave’—a day long motivational and counseling programme for Class X & XII students at Badarpur on Sunday.

The Conclave was joined by more than a thousand girl students from the valley where ERDF Chairman Mahbubul Hoque launched several scholarships, freeships and fellowships, including 5 numbers of BA scholarships in the name of eminent reformist from Barak Valley Late Dr Tayeebur Rahman Barbhuiya. The event was marked by expert counseling and motivational sessions and participation of ACS and HSLC toppers.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rajat Gupta, Director, NIT, Mizoram said that knowledge is the seed and economy is the fruit. Delivering an inspirational speech, he urged the students to excel in whatever career they follow and highly appreciated ERDF’s efforts to support poor and brilliant students through primary to higher education.

Addressing the students, Dr. Shaheen Ara Begum, Associate Professor, Dept of Computer Science, Assam University, Silchar said, “Girls have to be determined to stand on their own feet. Nothing can stop you from achieving your dream. You have to create a vision and decide what to become after 5 or 10 years from now. Visualizing your dream is very important—it is the bottom line from where you start”, she said.

“Hard work, patience and dedication executed in the proper direction surely leads to success”, said ACS topper Maria Tanim while addressing the gathering. HSLC topper Sarfaraz Hussain was also present in the Conclave and he gave certain study tips to the students. He stated that doing good result in class XI is very important if the student wants to perform well in class XII. Students should follow their interest and then only chose a particular stream, he added.

Expressing his strong belief that education of girls means education for a generation, Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor USTM and Chairman ERDF said that education is the only tool for progress and prosperity of the region. Students were apprised about various academic programmes and facilities offered in ERDF Institutions to meritorious students, including coaching for competitive examinations. Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Dr Bibhash Dev, Academic Advisor to ERDF while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Afsana Amin Soma, Principal, KBWC.
