SHILLONG: The material component under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for 2018-19 of almost all the VECs (Village Employment Councils) under West Khasi Hills is yet to be released.
In a memorandum to Minister of Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Sniawbhalang Dhar, the Nongstoin Block Village Employment Association raised a concern on the delay in releasing the material component which has affected the smooth functioning of the VECs.
The association has pointed out that the state government has not released the sanction for the material component which led to the delay.
They have urged the minister to look into the matter while further mentioning that previous government used to release the material cost from time to time.
The association held a meeting on April 13 in which the functionaries of the VEC discussed the hurdles faced by the VECs to implement the MGNREGA in connection with the delay in payment of the material cost for one year. The vendors have urged the VEC functionaries to clear the liabilities pending before the implementation of the new projects for 2019-20.
