SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) hopes to see a change in the result next year with the introduction of CBSE syllabus in Science and Commerce streams.
“This was the last batch and we hope the results will be better next year with the new syllabus”, said TR Laloo, Controller of Examinations, MBoSE.
While the overall pass percentage in Science stream is 71.07, that of Commerce stream is 79.24, which according to the official is not very impressive but not that bad.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Wednesday, Laloo, however, said with a different pattern next year, the result may improve.
The Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said next year, it will be the first examination for the students of science and commerce with the introduction of NCERT pattern. “I hope for the best in the new pattern of syllabus”, he said.
With South West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills not having commerce colleges, Laloo said there is a need to upgrade the secondary schools to higher secondary as this will help the students of rural areas.
“The improvement of percentage should not be the headache of the MBoSE alone as it should also be a collective responsibility involving managing committees, teachers and parents”, he said.
He pointed out the hue and cry in the past over not getting admission due to the limited higher educational institutions.
