SHILLONG: Chief Secretary P S Thangkhiew has directed the MUDA engineers to carry out safety audit of precarious walls in the city following the recent accidents after cyclonic storm Fani hit the city.
While a house was destroyed in Lower Lumparing after a wall collapsed and fell on it, there was another similar incident in Raid Laban recently.
Sources said that there are many walls built by MUDA and also by private individuals and the responsibility of Municipal engineers will be to ensure whether they are strong enough to resist any natural calamities.
“We want to ensure the safety of the residents in the city whenever there are natural calamities”, he said.
