SHILLONG: Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said the state government should take up developmental activities along the inter-state border areas.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “On a visit to Balakhawa, I understood that there are those who want development and welcome the developmental work by Assam, but there are also those who oppose.”
According to him, the state government should take up developmental activities in the border areas so that people are not tempted to seek development from other places. He asserted that Belakhowa is a village well within the boundaries of Meghalaya and does not fall under Assam.
“We need sanction from the central government to get road connectivity which will benefit the border areas,” Tongkhar said.
He said the issue of inter-state border is the heart of HSPDP and pointed to the need for a solution to the lingering dispute between the two states.
