Four killed, one injured in separate incidents
Two persons were killed in a hit and run case. On May 10 around 5.30 am, a vehicle proceeding from Jowai towards Shillong kncked down Alkrinda Kharkongor and Dahunshisha Kharkongor (who were sisters) at NH-44 Umphyrnai (East Khasi Hills). Alkrinda died on the spot while Dahunshisha Kharkongor succumbed to her injuries on May 13 around 2.50 pm. During enquiry, it was learnt from the damaged parts found from the PO and also from CCTV footage acquired from Toll Plaza that the vehicle responsible for causing the accident was a Maruti Brezza vehicle (AS-10B-1188).

On May 14 around 10.30 pm, one truck turned turtle at Hat Thangsngi Junction (EKH) and fatally crushed two of its occupants identified as Amos Kharkongor (28) and Ribarles Rynjah (19) who jumped off the truck in panic.
On May 16, one truck jumped over the road divider at Umtrew (Ri Bhoi) and dashed against another truck and a Maruti car. As a result, driver of the Maruti car sustained injuries.
