Agartala: The ruling BJP’s coalition partner tribal based Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) has faced challenge of it’s existence following inner squabble after poor result in just concluded Loksabha elections.
Besides, IPFT leaders, the MLAs of the party were divided on the question of continuing association with BJP while later party leaders were also fumed over keep them in the cabinet.
However, BJP top leaderships indicated that they are not going to scrap relationship with IPFT till the election to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) would over, which is due at the end of this year.
The BJP always maintain the principle of coalition without considering the strength or popularity, said a state functionary of BJP.
According to report, IPFT president N. C. Debbarma and incumbent revenue minister of Biplab Deb’s government and general secretary and tribal welfare minister Mevar Kr Jamatia have been facing tough time due to dissidence within the party.
The party has witnessed large scale desertion over Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and it’s vice president Ananta Debbarma joined in congress revolting the stand of IPFT ministers.
“Both Debbarma and Mevar were asked to resign from the cabinet when police opened fire on the CAB protestors in eastern Agartala. Supporting CAB movement and persuading the core demand of Twipraland were the decision of the party central committee, but both the ministers did not respond properly and refused to resign from the cabinet,” Ananta Debbaram alleged.
