Demand for police battalion HQ in South Garo Hills

SHILLONG: Rongara-Siju MLA Rakkam A Sangma has urged the Home Minister James Sangma to consider Baghmara, South Garo Hills as the headquarters of upcoming 7th Battalion of Meghalaya Police.
In a memorandum submitted to the Home Minister on Saturday, the MLA raised the need to set up the headquarters of the new police battalion at Baghmara.
Rakkam said the home minister confirmed verbally for consideration of the matter and official process will be followed soon.
In his memorandum, the MLA said the then Home Minister Late Lotsing A Sangma had desired to set up 6/7th Battalion of Meghalaya Police at Baghmara.
Rakkam also lamented on the negligence by the past governments towards the district for many years.
He also expressed concern over slow progress in the construction of Baghmara-Ranikor road under SARDP and National Highway No.217 ( Earlier No.62) from Daiandubi to Dalu via Baghmara.
He thanked the government for various initiatives taken up for the last one year.
