Essay writing competition held
TURA: An essay writing competition for school students was held on Saturday at Mason Philips Hall Annexe, Mission Compound in Tura on the topic ‘The Life and Works of Mahatma Gandhi.’ The event was organised by North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), in collaboration with Arts and Culture Department, Government of Meghalaya, and Society for Activities of Varied Enrichment (SAVE).
In her brief address about the aims and objectives of the programme, Assistant Curator of Arts and Culture Department, Tura, Kimde R Marak informed that the event was intended to develop an ability to write good essays among students and also to improve their writing skills for their future career. Purav Agarwal from Captain William School, Tura, bagged the first prize while Harshita Nandinee Deka from Tura Public School got the second prize and Chenian Vetsy M Sangma from Christian Girls School, Tura, bagged the third prize.

Meritorious students felicitated
JOWAI: The Panaliar Secondary School, which happens to be one of the oldest schools in Jowai, felicitated its students who successfully got through their SSLC examination conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE). The school was established during British era in 1944 in the name of Pohmusiang Lower Primary and was re-christened to its present name in 1946 with time-to-time upgradation under the state government after India attained its independence. In those past years, students of the school have been able to compete with others schools in the then lower examination and also the middle examination. Headmaster of the School, Sawada Bamon, also informed that this year, 18 candidates appeared the SSLC examination and 15 of them got through, where one student secured first division with two distinctions.

BSF holds screening camp
SHILLONG: Composite Hospital BSF, Shillong, organised a screening camp for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, and diabetes at BSF Campus in Umpling on Saturday. The camp was held focusing on the motto ‘Prevention is better than cure.’ The camp was attended by 85 women, 15 children and 32 men from Umpling and Mawpat BSF campuses. The people in the camp were screened, treated and were advised various prevention methods. Such camps are organised by Composite Hospital BSF, Shillong, on a regular basis for its jawans and beneficiaries, as well as for the border population at different border outposts.
