CIDC opens vocational training centre at Nongstoin

GUWAHATI: Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) has opened a centre for job-oriented vocational training and skill development at Don Bosco Tech, Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills district.

In this regard, the inaugural training programme was held in the presence of CIDC, state government and Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials at the centre on Saturday.

It may be mentioned that under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of AAI for North East Region, CIDC has been implementing the programme for SC/ST/OBC/women, unemployed youth and economically weaker sections of society with a target to train 2000 persons within 24 months. 

In its endeavour to complete the task in time, CIDC has already opened nine centres in the Northeast, with four each in Meghalaya and Assam and one in Mizoram.

The Community and Rural Development (C&RD) department, Meghalaya has been supporting CIDC in providing infrastructure to conduct the training programme. District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Meghalaya has identified and nominated beneficiaries for the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Shillong Airport director, Manoj Kumar Nayak, highlighted the importance of communication skill among the beneficiaries of the programme and the need to enhance trade related skills to market themselves in the competitive world.

Items such as kit bags and helmets were distributed among the beneficiaries of the programme.
