Gold bars worth Rs 70L seized in WJH

JOWAI: The West Jaintia Hills District police through its Special Police Team (SPT) led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Donkupar Moksha seized 1.99 kg of gold meant for smuggling from Myanmar through Jiribam, Manipur, to Guwahati.
“Acting on a specific information about the movement of contraband through the National Highway (NH-6) via West Jaintia Hills District, the Special Team of West Jaintia Hills District Executive Force (WJH-DEF) led by Donkupar Moksha, set up check point at Phramer (8th Mile) and around 1 am we intercepted a bus and after through search we caught one person with 12 gold bars hidden in the sole of his sandals”, Moksha said.
The night bus bearing registration number (AS01 KC 9461), coming from Jiribam, Manipur and proceeding to Guwahati was intercepted and the belongings of all passengers were checked. During the checking, 12 gold bars weighing around 166 gm each and worth around Rs 70 lakh was recovered from the possession of one Amir Hussian from Manipur.
He will be interrogated by the police and also by the Customs Department.
