SHILLONG: The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong Nongthymmai Pyllun will send a reminder to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on excluding other tribes from the Constitution (Scheduled Tribe) Order, 1950 listed under Meghalaya.
The Synjuk had met the chief minister to discuss the matter.
They held a meeting on Saturday which was attended by Nongthymmai MDC Latiplang Kharkongor, traditional heads from Nongthymmai and adjacent areas, such as Laitkor Pyllun, Mylliem lum, Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and Federation of Garo Jaintia People (FKJGP).
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, president of the Synjuk, Bantyllilang Nari said the meeting has decided to urge upon the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong ka Bri Hynniewtrep to take up the issue which has affected the state as a whole.
Nari asserted that non-indigenous tribes have taken away the benefits which should have been enjoyed by the indigenous tribes of the state such as in the field of employment, land transfer act and trade.
He went on to claim that Nongthymmai has a population of 10,000 and many have their own lands.
