TURA: A group of village employment council (VEC) secretaries from Zikzak block in South West Garo Hills is urging upon the government to release funds for payment of the material component for various MGNREGA works.

The secretaries complain that they have not received the money for supply of materials for the year 2017-2018 and 2019 which is having a toll on their financial positions. They have urged upon the government to ascertain the causes for the delay in the payment.

However, government sources have clarified that the funds from the central quota for MGNREGA works is yet to be released to the state due to the general elections process which began from the beginning of the year and got completed only last month.

Every other block in the state is facing the same problem, it was pointed out by government authorities.
