Show cause to 5 IMFL shops
AMPATI: South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Kumar Singh has served show cause notices to five IMFL shop owners of Mahendraganj for violating the terms and conditions of their licences. The deputy commissioner, through a communiqué on June 17, stated that the five IMFL shops were found open well beyond the closure tim of 7.30 pm on June 10, which is a gross violation and breach of terms and conditions of license under Section 29 (1) (b) of M.E. Act. The five IMFL shop owners have been directed to reply to the show cause notice within seven days, failing which action will be taken against them under relevant sections of the law.
Toilet facility in city school
SHILLONG: The Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong (RCOCS) initiated a separate toilet facility for boys at Pynthorumkhrah Golflinks Higher Secondary School. The toilet, constructed by the club, was inaugurated on Wednesday by Rtn Matsiewdor War Nongbri, IAS, DC, East Khasi Hills. The school principal Antonella Nongkhlaw, in her welcome speech, thanked the RCOCS for the noble gesture which will benefit the students of the school for years to come. Rtn Bedarius Shylla enlightened the students on water and sanitation hygiene, and also guided the boys to maintain the structure as their own property and also keep it clean. The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Rtn Antony War Nongbri, the Secretray of RC Orchid City. RCOCS also constructed a wash station at Christ Church Higher Secondary School, Mawlai, Syllaikariah, which was inaugurated on June 4.
FIR for selling duplicate parts
SHILLONG: The consultant India Pvt Ltd for Maruti Suzuki India Limited has filed a police complaint against one of the shops in the city for selling duplicate auto parts of Maruti Suzuki company. The complainant Alamgir Munshi said that they found one Automobile shop ‘Pipal Wa Automobile Shop’ in Mawlonghat, Bara Bazar, was selling duplicate auto parts of Maruti Suzuki company. Police has registered a case under Copyrights Act.
VECs irked over payment delay
TURA: A group of village employment council (VEC) secretaries from Zikzak block in South West Garo Hills is urging the government to release funds for payment of the material component for various MGNREGA works. The secretaries complain that they have not received the money for supply of materials for the year 2017-2018 and 2019 which is having a toll on their financial positions. They have urged upon the government to ascertain the causes for the delay in the payment. However, government sources have clarified that the funds from the central quota for MGNREGA works is yet to be released to the state due to the general elections. It was pointed out by government authorities that every other block in the state is facing the same problem.

Shillong: Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban, is organising the 12th Inter Shillong Cultural Event, 2019 which will include various competitions on July 14 like Rangoli, Rabindra Sangeet, folk song, dance on Tagore songs. On July 21, recitation in English and Bengali will be held, whereas on July 28 competitions like marathon, art, essay, quiz and fun games will be held.
