Groups suspend stir after DC assurance

TURA: Organizations from East Garo Hills which began their two day office picketing of the deputy commissioner’s office, demanding the appointment of a full-fledged Principal at Williamnagar Government College on Tuesday called off their agitation midway after assurance was given that their demands would be fulfilled within three weeks.

The organizations including the GSU, FAF, AAYF and others had sat for the demonstration in front of the deputy Commissioner’s office at 10 am, only to disperse by 12 pm after the written assurance was given by the DC. Meanwhile, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe has also written a letter to the Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Education Department in Shillong reminding of the assurance made earlier that the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) would be scheduled this week itself and the process of appointment of a new full-fledged Principal for the college would be completed within 3 weeks. The DC urged the department to make best efforts to ensure that the administrative post be filled as soon as possible for the smooth functioning of the college. A copy of the same letter was also given to the agitating organizations to assure them that all efforts are being made to solve the problem.
