SHILLONG: Health department will meet KPC group on July 15 to discuss about the construction of Shillong Medical College.
The Kolkata based KPC group was entrusted by the Meghalaya government to construct the college.
Health Minister AL Hek told reporters on Tuesday since the KPC group has agreed to construct the college at Umsawli, the July 15 meeting will finalise the matter.
Earlier, the plan of the government was to construct the medical college on the premises of the Reid Chest TB hospital, Jhalupara and shift the TB hospital to Umsawli. The state government, after signing an MoU with the KPC group in 2012, had also laid the foundation stone for the proposed medical college on the TB hospital premises.
Hek said since the land at Umsawli is only 17 acres, the government has asked the Urban Affairs department to allot 5 more acres as per the demand of KPC group.
In addition, the government wanted the KPC group to use the already constructed buildings at the cost of Rs 20 crore at Umsawli meant for the TB patients.
