Videsh Bhawans to come up in state capitals

SHILLONG: Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan said since a large number of people from Meghalaya and other Northeastern states visit holy places like Jerusalem and nearby areas, the Centre is keen to make visa process simple.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Muraleedharan said since getting visa is difficult for the people of the North East, the Centre will make all efforts and request various countries to have some facilities for visa processing so that more citizens from the North East can make their travel easier.
He also admitted there is a need to address the issues related to getting visa as everyone in the North East has to travel to Kolkata for visa.
“Centre is now planning to have Videsh Bhawan in all the state capitals to facilitate the smooth functioning of Ministry of External Affairs which will bring people closer to people”, he said.
He also visited passport Seva Kendra in Shillong and handed over a few passports to the people.
Meghalaya has around 36,000 passport holders and the Shillong passport seva Kendra alone has issued around 28,000 passports.
