NONGSTOIN: Minister in-charge of Fisheries Department, Comingone Ymbon accompanied by Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat and Director of Fisheries, A. L Mawlong visited West Khasi Hills to discuss measures to initiate welfare and development in the district, including fish farming on Thursday.
Ymbon also had a review meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, BDOs and officers of Fisheries department of the district. He said the department aims to produce fish to uplift the economy of the people of the state.
During the meeting, the minister lauded the efforts taken by officers of the fisheries department and urged them to take up the schemes seriously and to help the fish farmers in whatever way they can.
He added that we should put our confidence on the fish farmers, so that they are able to supply fish to market in the state and not to depend from outside.
”The growth of our economy depend on the farmers, if they improve, then the economy of the state will boost. Fisheries is one of the main target of the government to help the farmers, and before the introduction of Aqua Culture Mission, our state can produce less than four thousand metric tonnes of fishes a year but after the mission was launched, we are able to produce more than 13,000 to 14,000 metric tonnes of fish per year” said the fisheries minister.
He hopes that through the hardwork of the farmers under the guidance of the officers of the department, the state will soon achieve the target.
