SHILLONG: After the meeting with the officials of the government and the GVK EMRI management, the staff alleged that the management had deducted the salary of the employees.
The employees said on Sunday that while seeking answers from the management, they came to know that the salary was deducted for the strike. “This is another form of harassment of the employees by the management while there was status-quo during the meeting between both the parties”, the employees added.
They demanded a clarification regarding the matter and wanted the management to refund the deducted amount. “The question arises as to whether the management has any authority to deduct the salary of the employees or did the government give them the authority to do so”, the employees said.
Meanwhile, the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has given the GVK EMRI management one week to pay the salaries deducted from the employees of EMRI 108.
In a statement issued here, president of Shillong circle Treiborlang R Suchen urged the Health Minister, Alexander L Hek to intervene in order to ease the grievances of the GVK employees.
According to Suchen, he was informed that there were no salary deductions when EMRI 108 employees in Assam protested against the GVK administration but has turned into the exact opposite here in Meghalaya.
The JSU also demanded that the state government should release the report of the special committee which had convened a meeting on July 26 at the DHS office here in the city.
Suchen went on to add that the haughty attitude of the GVK management has caused despair amongst the youth in need of employment. He also argued that the GVK is resorting to exploitation of labour and has requested the Labour Department to look into the matter.
