TURA: Batsrang A Sangma, a 22-year-old youth from Garo Hills, has once again made the region and the state proud by bagging the 2nd position in the Guwahati Half Marathon which was organised on Sunday.
Earlier this year, Batsrang also won the third edition of the Delhi half marathon in the non-elite, amateur category, (18 to 25 years) and came second in the overall run by one minute after the winner of the professional (elite) runner.
He was also part of the Kolkata Half Marathon in which he bagged the 3rd position in the amateur category.
Batsrang, whose father is a farmer, hails from Tebronggre Village in West Garo Hills. He is a degree student of Durama College in Tura. In honour of all his achievements as a runner, he was also felicitated by the west Garo Hills District Administration during the Republic Day celebrations this year.
Sunday’s half marathon was a prelude to the 21st edition of Techniche- grand annual event of the Indian Institute of Technology- Guwahati (IIT-G)
Batsrang’s talent as a marathon runner was first discovered this year by the then Sub-Divisional Officer of Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Swapnil Tembe who encouraged him to pursue the sport and even initiated crowd funding campaign to promote his talent.
