Poshan Maah launched in SGH

TURA/MAWKYRWAT: Joining other districts in kick starting the nutrition campaign, Poshan Maah was launched in South Garo Hills at Baghmara Baptist Church Hall, on Wednesday, in the presence of South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner H B Marak, Project Director DRDS M T Sangma, representative from the line departments, senior citizens, teachers and students from various schools of Baghmara.
Further, the nutrition campaign was launched in Resubelpara of North Garo Hills by district Deputy Commissioner, S C Sadhu in his office chamber amid officials from various converging departments.
Speaking at the launching ceremony which was organised by District Programme Office ICDS, East and North Garo Hills in tandem with District Administration, the Deputy Commissioner said that nutrition is a comprehensive subject and it is not only about food but relates to several other activities.
Meanwhile, a day-long training programme on kitchen gardening, organic farming and mushroom cultivation under Poshan Maah was conducted at Rerapara village under Rerapara C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills on Wednesday.
The programme was jointly organised by the District Agriculture Office, District Horticulture Office and ATMA with Chisal R Marak, DPD and Sunit Koch BTM as resource persons.
Moreover, an awareness rally for prevention of anemia among pregnant mothers, children and adolescent girls was held as part of the Poshan Maah under Rangsakona sector. The rally was undertaken by Anganwadi workers, ASHAs and school children of the area.
Sensitisation on nutrition
As part of the celebration of Rastriya Poshan Maah 2019, the office of the District Project Officer (DPO) and Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Mawkyrwat organised a sensitisation programme on Nutrition and Poshan Abhiyaan through a street play at Mawkyrwat Market, South West Khasi Hills District on Wednesday.
Social Work students of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) presented patriotic songs during the programme and the Kynhun Biria U Maram (KBUM) presented a street play. Others who were present during the programme included District Social Welfare Officer, L. Lyngdoh and Child Development Programme Officer, H. Sahkhar.
