Mawkyrwat: The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP), South West Khasi Hills has expressed resentment over the frequent power cuts in Balat after numerous complaints stated that electricity is usually available for only 5 to 6 hours in a day.
The general secretary of the FKJGP, South West Khasi Hills, Balse Kharbani claimed that the problems cropped up ever since the Feedback Electricity Distribution Company Limited (FEDCO) took over from the MeECL in Mawsynram Division.
“The unavailability of electricity during the day has greatly affected the people especially those who depend on electricity for their work,” Kharbani said.
“Besides, the federation has also found out about many errors regarding the bills. Many have come up saying that they had paid their bills only to receive the same bills all over again. This shows that the company is not good enough to serve the people,” he said.
“Therefore, the federation urges the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills to take up this matter seriously. Even though the division is in East Khasi Hills, it also affects the people of South West Khasi Hills especially in the border areas,” Kharbani said.
Kharbani also informed that as of now, the people in the border areas are showing resentment towards the company for failing to provide better service.
“Therefore, we also request the DC to inform the government about the inability of the company to provide better service,” he said.
