Border village in need of developmental projects

Memorandum submitted to CM

JOWAI: Psiar village under Block I area of the Meghalaya- Assam border in West Jaintia Hills district submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for taking up developmental projects in the area.
The village which has been facing difficulties due to the long pending border dispute handed over the memorandum to Fisheries Minister, Comingone Ymbon on behalf of the Chief Minister.
The Psiar Dorbar Shnong in its memorandum highlighted various developmental projects which need urgent attention by the government so that the people residing in Block –I area can benefit from the government intervention.
Projects such as road connectivity from Sahsniang via Psiar to Moolber, Moojem – Jrikyndeng up to Kheroni in Karbi-Anglong district should be initiated, the village said.
According to the memorandum, road connectivity is important in the absence of railways.
It also added that a police station or police outpost at Psiar is a long pending demand.
The village also demanded addition of one more polling station as the population of Psiar has risen thus the number voters has also increased.
According to them, Psiar, Khadkasla and Mowluber have a total of 1021 voters and they have to travel 8 kms to reach Tum Tum to cast their votes.
According to the memorandum, the crime rate including theft, robbery, murder, rape and others is very high and a police outpost at Psiar is an urgent need. The Raliang police outpost with small manpower cannot cover the whole area.
The people also urged the chief minister for upgradation of Sub-Centre under National Health Mission, gravity based water supply system from river Umbu at Sahsniang to Psiar and Khadkasla village to provide sufficient water supply, constructing an eco-friendly crematorium or Khnap Thangbru, financial assistance for the construction of a catholic church, recreational sports, upgradation of SSA Press Lower Primary Khatkaaia to Upper Primary School and to set up a new veterinary dispensary.
Ymbon was accompanied by local MLA Nujorki Sungoh, Jowai MLA besides the JHADC chief and some of the MDCs.
Ymbon informed the people of Block I that he will hand over their memorandum to the chief minister.
“I, along with your local MLA will take up each and every need you have mentioned in the memorandum”, Ymbon said.
