Tura MP Agatha relishes her favourite fairy tale
WILLIAMNAGAR/TURA: It is the classic love story told for generations– a fairy tale of love between a small town girl and a young prince who was transformed into a fearsome beast because of his vanity.
The Disney classic musical play Beauty and the Beast presented on Thursday by the young artists and students of Loyola College of Williamnagar enthralled the audience, including Tura MP Agatha K Sangma and a host of dignitaries, as they witnessed the grandeur of this Broadway hit for the first time in Garo Hills.
The audience, which included many a young soul, were led through the doors of imagination into the wonderful world of fairy tales by the Beast and Bella, while the foot tapping, soul-stirring music tempted many to rise from their seats.
The brilliance of the show which was woven together seamlessly was not lost on the dignitaries and the audience.
Congratulating the students and the Loyola institution, Tura MP Agatha K Sangma revealed that this Disney classic has been her all-time favourite fairy tale, as she lauded the principal for giving importance to such an elaborate performance showcasing the talents of the students in the field of drama, music and dance.
Commending the young performers for their prowess, and for their ability to bring alive what she acknowledged as one of her favourite stories, Agatha aptly and very insightfully relayed the message the institute had in mind while selecting this particular play for its annual event.
While adulating the institute for its mission of “holistic individual development” of every student, she also urged the young students to “read” and dream bigger dreams.
Williamnagar MLA and government Chief Whip Marcuise N Marak, GHADC Chairman Denang T Sangma and deputy commissioner Swapnil Tembe also witnessed the colorful play.
Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Fr. Sunny Augustine SJ, Principal of Loyola College, informed the gathering that the play educates its viewers on the power of love and kindness and the faults of arrogance and hatred.
On the occasion, Agatha also released the second edition of the College Magazine “Magis 2019” and felicitated four meritorious students of the college who cleared the NEHU examination with distinction.
The college proudly accredited and felicitated the rank holders in the various departments: first and second rank in Dept. of Garo; fifth rank in Dept. of English; and eight rank in Dept. of Political Science.
