Street food vendors get training

SHILLONG: The Joint Commissioner of Food Safety, Shillong on Monday informed that a total of 520 street food vendors had attended the street food vendors training programme, organised by the Commissionerate of Food Safety, Meghalaya in collaboration with Nestle India Ltd. and the National Association of Street Vendors of India.
He also informed that out of the 520 vendors, 430 were trained in Shillong, 48 in Tura and 42 in Sohra.
It may be mentioned that the programme, which was inaugurated on September 17, is the first-of-its kind to be organised with an aim to impart training to street food vendors in the state.
Important topics such as food safety and hygiene were also discussed during the course of the training thereby safeguarding the health and well-being of the people and at the same time, enabling street food vendors to sustain better livelihoods in new market conditions. Certificates, caps, aprons and gloves were also distributed to all the participants.
