SHILLONG: Latiplang Kharkongor, MDC of Nongthymmai said that he is against bringing the unrepresented tribe in the proposed amendment of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, he said the Scheduled Tribe list for Meghalaya should be amended and if there is need to modify, it should be done so. He said that as far as Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is concerned, to bring the unrepresented tribes here is unacceptable.
“Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) are separated from KHADC,” he said.
He referred to the statement made by former ANVC-B chief Bernard Marak who spoke about Garos losing a privilege from being nominated to the KHADC and GHADC. He said that the inclusion of village and municipal council should not be in the KHADC.
