Bank of Baroda, Rotary Club donate computer tables
SHILLONG: Bank of Baroda, in collaboration with Rotary Club, Shillong distributed computer tables to Bellefonte Community College, Lumshyiap as an initiative of the bank under CSR activity on Saturday. Sonam T Bhutia, DGM and Regional Head, Guwahati Region, Bank of Baroda along with David T Umdor, Deputy Director, NEIGRIHMS and president of the Rotary Club, Shillong were present on the occasion.
Garo Hills BJP leader Binoy Ghosh passes away
TURA: Senior BJP leader from Phulbari constituency, Binoy Ghosh, who played a key role in strengthening the party in the plain belt region passed away on Tuesday. Ghosh passed away early in the morning at a hospital in Guwahati. He had been battling ill health for some time. A successful businessman from the Phulbari town, Ghosh joined politics and contested as an Independent 15 years ago. He narrowly lost the polls on his maiden entry into politics but continued with his work as a public leader. He joined the BJP and was selected as the party candidate for the 2018 assembly elections which he, however, lost to the NPP’s S G Esmatur Mominin.
Unidentified male body found
SHILLONG: The office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills informed that on July 21 the body of an unidentified man (Approximately 42-45 years) was found floating on the Umshyrpi river. Inquest and other legal formalities have been observed and the same was sent to SDM&HO Civil Hospital, Shillong for holding post mortem examination following which it was kept in the Civil Hospital morgue room for identification and claiming. Seminar on Natl Education Policy
SHILLONG: The Mawsynram Border Area College organised a one-day seminar on National Education Policy (NEP)-cum-career counselling in collaboration with Shillong College Academic Society (SCAS) and Laitbah Higher Secondary School at the college hall on Monday. Principal of the college and governing body members, resource person Maribon Viray, Martin Luther Christian University, B. Lyngdoh, ETPL, Bishar Hek, Corporate trainer/life coach, MN Bhatacharjee, retired professor of Shillong College, A. Nongbri, Department of Khasi, Shillong College and students and representatives from Laitbah Higher Secondary School, among others were present on the occasion. At the outset, the Principal of the college welcomed the participants and felicitated the resource person. A video clip on the importance of environment was also screened to create awareness among the participants. Bhatacharjee spoke on the negative and positive features of NEP and gave suggestions for its improvement while lectures were also delivered on career counselling, hospitality management, team work, etc.
AROH celebrates World River Day
SHILLONG: AROH (A Ray Of Hope) foundation team with the support of HDFC Bank Ltd celebrated World River Day at Umlympung, 12 Mer village on Saturday. The even aimed at sensitising people on the values of rivers and streams. The inaugural part of the programme witnessed the speech by facilitator of 12 Mer village. Others who present during the event included the headman and local populace of Umlympung along with the staff from AROH foundation. The programme started with the opening speech from facilitator of 12 Mer village, which was then followed by the awareness of world river day to the locality people. The event was done in the presence of. The event was done to highlights the importance and values of existing rivers and stream that is available in the villages. After the speeches on the importance of rivers by the headman and the project manager, a cleaning drive was also conducted by a team of AROH foundation and the locals to clear up the waste accumulated in the region.
Workshop on Research Methodology
SHILLONG: The Department of Social Work (MSW), St. Edmund’s College conducted a two-day workshop on Research Methodology which concluded on Tuesday. The workshop aimed at enabling participants to better understand Research Methodology. The resource person for the workshop was D.K. Lal Das, freelance research consultant and former Director of R.M. College of Social Work and Research Centre, Hyderabad. College administration, students from various departments of the college, NGOs and researchers participated in the workshop. On the first day, the participants were introduced to the basics of research. The second day was focused on concepts such as scaling, reliability and validity. A session that focused on the technical aspects of data analysis for research using IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was also held.
