SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF), conducted ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaigns in various BSF campuses, BOPs including villages and areas along the international border under FTR HQ BSF, Meghalaya.
The campaign was flagged off by Kuldeep Saini, inspector general, BSF Meghalaya on September 11.
During the 21-day campaign, banners, posters and hoardings were displayed in many public places.
Workshops, seminars, quizzes and slogan competitions were organised in schools situated in bordering areas with an aim of creating awareness on single use plastics.
A mega rally was launched on Wednesday which was attended by KuldeepSaini, Ashok Kumar, DIG, BSF along with officers, subordinate officers and BSF jawans. The team visited the Umpling campus including the adjoining areas and carried out a cleanliness drive.
“Shramdan and cleaning the area in and around the campuses is the character and routine activity of BSF,” Saini said.
“The BSF has formulated a systematic waste disposal plan which involves the separation of organic and inorganic waste and is also promoting community awareness programmes in different border villages through the distribution of dustbins, construction of toilets and plastic waste awareness and management,” he added.
The programme concluded with a resolve made by the BSF to continue its campaign on plastic waste awareness and management throughout the year.
