SHILLONG: A group of miscreants, on Monday morning, attempted to loot an online public courier vehicle which was transporting a cache of goods.
The incident happened when a truck (AS-01LC-4953) was intercepted by two private vehicles in Malki Point between 4 and 4:30 am.
The truck was transporting a variety of online goods belonging to Amazon, Flip Card, Udan, Myntra and others and had left Beltola, Guwahati at 1 am.
Six to seven men stepped out of the cars and told the driver to halt the vehicle.
Sensing danger, the driver turned the vehicle towards Seven Set School in an attempt to escape the miscreants. After crossing the entrance to the school, the truck was blocked from both the front and back.
This gave the miscreants a chance to open the front doors of the truck after which they demanded the driver to hand over the keys.
The driver told them that he did not possess a key as the carrier was attached with an electronic locker and could only be opened by the consignee after scanning the number on the tag which was sealed on the back of the carrier.
The attackers then demanded Rs 20,000 from the driver which later went down to Rs 10,000 after the driver had told them that he had no money.
Realising that they would not get anything from the driver the miscreants fled the scene.
Later, the driver along with his helper immediately informed the different consignees about the incident.
On learning about the incident, the consignees filed an FIR with Laitumkhrah Police Station.
