NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Nongstoin Circle on Tuesday has again demanded from the district administration of West Khasi Hills and also the Nongstoin Town Committee to clear out all the waste dumped near Nonbah river bank and behind the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Nongstoin.
The president of KSU Nongstoin circle, Franklin Syiemiong, who spoke to The Shillong Times, said that for many years, the dumping of waste and garbage in these two locations is practised by the people of Nongstoin. There is no one to clear out the waste as it is the duty of the Nongstoin Town Committee to do it, he added.
People passing by these places complain because of the bad smell emitting from them. Syiemiong stated that three to four trucks full with garbage are still in the same place without the intervention of the headman or the authorities.
“There is no solution to end littering in Nongstoin if the authorities are still not batting an eye about the waste and garbage lying in their door step” he said.
The KSU recently met West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner and demanded him to intervene in the matter.
The DC assured the union that the waste will be cleared out but till date nothing has been done.
