Conrad meets Modi to discuss development issues and National Games

PM invited to Water Conference

TURA: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma called on the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday and discussed several issues pertaining to the development of the State, particularly the ongoing works for hosting the upcoming National Games in the state.

Development of the infrastructure for the upcoming National Games to be hosted by the State as well as a major project under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment that is pending in the Cabinet were raised during the meeting.. The Chief Minister also gave a proposal for other important infrastructure for the National Games, stated an official communique from the chief minister’s office.

According to the official statement, the Prime Minister is said to have assured the Chief Minister of all possible help to ensure the projects get a timely completion for the National Games.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has given a financial proposal seeking approximately a thousand crores from the centre for various developmental projects to be taken up across the state, it was informed.

A financial package for completing major infrastructural projects including the construction of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly was also sought from the centre during the meeting. This is from a special corpus for the States from the Prime Minister’s Office, stated the release.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister has Invited Prime Minister Modi to the state for the upcoming Water Conference, the launch of the Piggery Mission and the inauguration of the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Shillong.

Conrad Sangma also briefed the prime minister about an upcoming visit to Bangladesh in which the former will lead a delegation in November with a view to establish better economic ties with the neighbouring country and work on a plan to increase the export of goods from Meghalaya with an aim to boost the state’s economy in the coming years.
