Miscreants break open ATM, loot over Rs 3 lakh

NONGPOH: Miscreants broke open one ATM machine of the State Bank of India (SBI), Umroi Branch in Ri Bhoi on wee hours of Tuesday and managed to loot cash amounting to Rs. 3.15 lakh.
As per information received from the Branch Manager of the SBI, Umroi Branch, Rajiv Saikia, the incident happened at around 1.43 am on Tuesday morning.
He also informed that according to CCTV recordings, there were around 3 to 4 miscreants with their faces fully covered, who first broke down the shutter of the ATM building and then cut its wire. The bank authorities came to know about the incident only early morning.
The matter was then reported to Ri Bhoi Police for investigation. It was after the arrival of the police and thorough enquiry that the bank authorities came to know that the miscreants managed to loot cash amounting to Rs 3.15 lakh out of the total amount of Rs. 8 lakh present in the ATM. He also informed that they managed to take on the ATM cassettes. Interestingly, the miscreants also removed the ATM machine from its original position.
An FIR in this regard has been filed and Ri Bhoi Police has begun investigation.
