SHILLONG: A review petition filed by seven petitioners before the High Court of Meghalaya on Thursday against the recent order of the court regarding KHADC directive on trading license was withdrawn by the counsel for the petitioners.
The court had on October 14 did not interfere with the KHADC order prohibiting hawking by non-tribals without valid trading license. The petition was filed by Julie Warjri and six others. During the hearing, after arguing for some time, when the court was not agreeing with the submissions, the counsel for the petitioner withdrew the review petition.
Earlier, the court after disposing of the petition against the order of KHADC prohibiting hawking by non-tribals without valid trading license, also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each to the seven petitioners.
The reason for disposing of the case by Chief Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal was that the petitioners were tribals whereas the trading license was meant for non-tribals.
Additional advocate general ND Chullai and senior counsel VGK Kynta appeared on behalf of State and KHADC respectively.
